The 5th China Oat and Buckwheat Industry Conference was held in Baicheng City, Jilin Province from June 18th to 20th, 2023, with the theme of "Improving Industry Science and Technology Innovation Capability and Promoting High Quality Industrial Development". This conference is jointly hosted by the People's Government of Baicheng City, Jilin Province and the Working Committee of the China Food Industry Association's Grain Industry. It is hosted by the Baicheng Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Baicheng Normal University, and the National Oat and Buckwheat Industry Technology Research and Development Center.
This year's Oat and Buckwheat Industry Conference is a grand event held against the backdrop of fully implementing the new development concept of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, deeply implementing the 14th Five Year Plan for development, fully implementing rural revitalization, comprehensively promoting high-quality development, and vigorously promoting the strategy of "big food, big nutrition, and big health". The conference was unprecedentedly grand, with high standards of attendees and a wide range of representatives. More than 190 expert representatives from three academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 33 scientific research institutions of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, more than 160 expert representatives from 43 colleges and universities, including the China Agricultural University and Harbin Institute of Technology, more than 210 entrepreneur representatives from 108 enterprises, more than 60 leaders from 16 relevant government departments, including the China Food Industry Association, Baicheng Municipal Government, Wuchuan County Government in Inner Mongolia, Chunhua County Government in Shaanxi Province, Yangyuan County Government in Hebei Province, and representatives from the news media and volunteers, a total of about 800 people attended the conference, with a record number and level of participants.
Before the opening ceremony, the enterprise food exhibition was a major highlight of this conference; Hebei Jinhui Lvyuan Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. launched the "Buckwheat Taste" brand of tartary buckwheat series products (more than 10 varieties including tartary buckwheat rice, tartary buckwheat powder, tartary buckwheat rice, tartary buckwheat tea, tartary buckwheat noodles, tartary buckwheat breakfast paste, tartary buckwheat three black powder, tartary buckwheat miscellaneous grain cereal, seaweed nut tartary buckwheat cereal, tartary buckwheat miscellaneous grain gift box, etc.), which received great feedback from the industry and received rave reviews from consumers; This has laid a solid foundation for the "buckwheat flavor" buckwheat brand to move towards a larger stage.
After the opening ceremony, the meeting entered the reporting stage. Firstly, Academician Chen Jianping of the Chinese Academy of Engineering gave a keynote speech on "Research and Reflection on Rural Revitalization and Common Prosperity"; Secondly, experts and entrepreneurs from 16 universities, research institutions, oat and buckwheat enterprises, and food processing equipment fields have respectively published reports on breeding, planting, function, processing technology and equipment, and industrial development. This conference also held a Graduate Innovation Forum, where 10 Chinese and foreign doctoral students reported on six aspects of oat and buckwheat breeding, cultivation, pest and disease prevention and control, mechanized equipment, processing and nutritional evaluation, and consumption. The research team of China's oat and buckwheat industry is constantly growing and forming a talent pool.
The attending representatives unanimously agreed that oats and buckwheat are a large-scale and unique health industry. It is necessary to do a good job in overall design, track industry development, and plan strategic suggestions and arguments. In terms of technological innovation and industrial construction, we should take the responsibility of food safety to the next level.
